Soccer Scores Colossal Overtime Victory
The #9 ranked Roughrider soccer team won a thrilling 2-1 overtime match against #12 Pima Community College (6-3-0) Wednesday afternoon in Tucson. Freshman Daouda Cisse kicked in the game winner from 6 yards out 2:33 into the first sudden death overtime. The victory improves Yavapai’s record to 7-2-0 in conference play and marks the 450th victory in the history of the program.
Pima struck first in the battle of the conference titans eleven minutes into the match. Yavapai responded in the 22nd minute on a long throw in. Ricky Gabrielson took the pass from Matt Hazzard to tie the game. The game remained tied until the game winner in the extra period. Mike Moran, a Tucson native, went the distance in goal to come away with the victory.
The next three matches for the Roughriders are at home beginning on Saturday against Arizona Western College (6-1-1) at the amphitheater in Prescott Valley. Before tonight, the Matadors found themselves in second place in the ACCAC. Saturday’s match will kick-off at 6:00 PM.
