Soccer Outlasts Mesa
A lone goal in the first half of play was all that the Roughrider soccer team needed to record a 1-0 victory over the visiting Mesa Community College Thunderbirds tonight at the amphitheater in Prescott Valley. With the win, Yavapai improves their home opener to 20-1 in their fabled 21-year history and continues their undefeated record at their home-away-from-home field in Prescott Valley (28-0-0).
In the 31st minute of play, the goalkeeper Michael Moran found a streaking Rodolfo Godinez and he quickly deposited the ball in the back of the net for the game winner. The Roughriders outshot the opponents by a 22-8 margin and Moran played the full 90 minutes in goal to record his first shutout and the team’s second on the season.
YC will make their 2009 Prescott debut on Wednesday, September 9th entertaining the Artichokes from Scottsdale Community College. On Monday night, the Artichokes lost to Arizona Western College, 3-0. Wednesday’s match will kick-off at 6:00 PM at Ken Lindley Field.
