Volleyball Opens Season With Wins

The Roughrider volleyball team opened the season with a 28-26, 25-14 victory over Vernon College at the New Mexico Military institute Invitational. Set one was a back and forth battle with neither team leading by more than 4 points. In set two, Rachel Lindley served 10 straight points to start the set helping YC cruise to an easy win. Freshmen Haley Shackelford led the ‘riders with 13.5 points on 10 kills, 1 ace, and 2.5 blocks. Tialei Agader led the defense with 12 digs.

Yavapai volleyball continued it winning ways with a 25-14, 28-26 victory over Lee College to finish pool play in 1st place at the NMMI Invitational. After an easy set 1 victory, the ‘riders found themselves down 13-19 and 20-24 before rallying to catch Lee at 24 all and ultimately winning on a service ace from Freshmen Haley Shackelford to win the match. Sophomore Jordan Anderson led the ‘riders with 7 points on 6 kills and 1 ace. Freshmen Courtney Mrowczyski led the defense with 9 digs and 1.5 blocks.
