Bear Sweep The Roughriders

For the first time this season, the Roughrider softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader and it took the #1 ranked NJCAA Division II team to do it. Phoenix College swept YC Friday afternoon in Phoenix 7-3 and 3-2. Yavapai falls to 47-6 overall and 23-5 in league action. The losses break a tie for first place in the ACCAC with the Bears taking sole possession of the top spot.

Jenna Rodriguez took the loss in the first game. The sophomore pitcher went four and two-thirds innings allowing 7 earned runs on 9 hits. Kacie Smith and Rodriguez provided the offense with both launching a home run with Smith collecting two runs batted in.

In the nightcap, Audrey Workman (22-2) lost for only the second time this year allowing five hits and three earned runs. The Roughrider offense was stagnant with the exception of Kelli Fisher (2 for 2), Ashley Snedeker (1 for 1) and Smith (1 for 2).

Yavapai returns to the home diamond on Thursday, April 16th for a non-conference twinbill against Community College of Southern Nevada. The games will begin at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
