Softball Sweeps The Vaqueras
The Roughrider softball team continues to be worthy of their #1 national ranking with a crucial late season doubleheader sweep of fellow conference DI opponent Central Arizona College (33-18, 18-10) Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park, 3-0 and 10-0. Yavapai improves to 47-4 overall and a league leading 23-3 in conference play.
Jenna Rodriguez got the victory in the first game striking out six and allowing only four hits. Caitlin Stangl and Brittany Tucker each collected two hits on the game and Rodriguez and Aly Rhodes each knocked in a run.
The performance of the day came from Audrey Workman as she pitched a no-hitter facing one short of the minimum. The Wickenburg right-hander struck out nine to add to her league lead in that category (159). Rodriguez led the charge offensively going 4 for 4 with five runs batted in. Aubri Chiquete and Chelsea Pineda each homered and Ashley Snedeker added two hits.
In a battle for first place in the ACCAC, Yavapai travels to Phoenix College on Friday, April 10th. Both teams are tied for the league lead. In March, the Roughriders swept a twinbill from the Bears in Prescott, 7-5 and 11-3. Currently, both teams are ranked #1 in the NJCAA Division I (YC) and Division II (PC) polls. The doubleheader will be played on the campus of Phoenix College and the first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
