Smeltzer records 500th victory
The #2 ranked Roughrider baseball team swept a road doubleheader Tuesday afternoon over Glendale Community College (9-15, 19-22) to remain in first place of the ACCAC and in the process head coach Sky Smeltzer collected his 500th career victory. Smeltzer boasts an overall record of 500-239-4 (.673). The team improves their league leading record to 21-3 and a season mark of 36-6.
In the first game, Rick Anton got the win throwing 6 2/3 innings. He gave up only four hits and had seven strikouts. Pulama Silva threw the final out to get his league leading 12th save of the season. Ty Forney and Brett Sowers each collected two hits in the game.
In the nightcap, Merrill Kelly got his seventh (7-0) victory of the season and Silva got his second save of the day and 13th of the year. Cam Schiller, Dominic Piazza, Forney and Jordan Payne provided all of the offense on the day with each player collecting two hits. Forney knocked in three runs.
Yavapai plays host to fellow Division I foe Arizona Western College (11-13, 18-20) on Saturday, April 4. The first pitch of the twinbill will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
