Roughrider Softball Remains In First Place
Rodriguez hits three-run home run to salvage sweep. In a battle between first place and second place, the Roughrider softball team came away victorious and increased their lead in the ACCAC with a doubleheader sweep of Pima Community College Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park, 5-1 and 4-3. Yavapai is now 43-2 overall and 19-1 in league play. Pima falls to 43-9 overall and 16-4 in the ACCAC.
Jenna Rodriguez was stellar from the circle this afternoon striking out six batters while walking none to get her 19th victory on the year. Caitlin Stangl was two for four with a run scored and a run batted in. Ana Castillo was one for three with two runs batted in and Aly Rhodes was one for two with an RBI.
Audrey Workman struck out eight Pima batters and allowed only three hits en route to her league leading 20th victory in the second game. Rhodes, Stangl, Kacie Smith and Aubri Chiquete each collected a hit. Rodriguez was the hero from the plate with a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning with the Roughriders down 3-1.
In a rematch of last season’s NJCAA Region I Division I Championship, Yavapai will face Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher on Tuesday afternoon before hosting Arizona Western College on Friday, April 3rd. Both doubleheaders will begin at 12:00 PM.
