Roughrider Baseball Eats The Artichokes
YC remains one game up on second place CAC. The #2 ranked Roughrider baseball team swept a home doubleheader Saturday afternoon over the visiting Artichokes from Scottsdale Community College, 7-3 and 2-1. Yavapai remains in first place with a 19-3 record and improves to 34-6 overall. Scottsdale falls to 10-10 in conference play and 21-13 overall.
In the first game, Ian Campbell (5-1) went the distance from the mound surrendering only four hits while striking out four Artichoke batters. From the plate, Cam Schiller was a perfect four for four with two RBI’s. Bobby Rinard, Ty Forney, Brett Sowers and Zac Castleberry each collected two hits.
In the nightcap, Russell Havens (6-0) got the victory in seven innings pitched. The Imperial, CA native allowed four hits and struck out four while surrendering no runs. Scottsdale scored in their half of the eighth inning but Pulama Silva shut the door to get his 11th save of the year. Sowers was the hitting hero going two for three with a double and a home run, his sixth of the season.
The Roughriders return to the diamond on Tuesday, March 31st at Glendale Community College. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
