Baseball Sweeps Home Doubleheader
The #4 ranked Roughrider baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader over Illinois Central College Sunday afternoon at Roughrider Park, 15-0 and 18-7. Yavapai is now 24-4 overall with a 12-2 league record.
In the first game, Riley Welch got the victory on the mound pitching five innings, surrendering four hits and striking out seven. Bobby Rinard was two for four with two doubles, two runs scored and three runs knocked in. Landon Joost also collected two hits with a triple and three RBI’s and Zach Haley was two for three with three runs scored and one run batted in.
In the nightcap, Harley Thompson earned his second victory of the year allowing only four hits and punching out two. Rinard was four for five with two triples, two runs scored and two RBI’s. Kirby Yates added three hits with a double, three runs scored and two runs knocked in and Jake Chilton had three hits in five at bats with two runs scored and one RBI.
Monday, the Roughriders entertain the four-time university club team champions, Colorado State University. The twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM with Yates and Russell Havens getting the starts on the mound.
