Baseball Knocks Off #4 Ranked CAC

The Roughrider baseball team swept a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at the hands of #4 ranked Central Arizona College, 1-0 and 3-0. The victories put Yavapai in sole possession of first place in the ACCAC with a 12-2 record. CAC falls to 10-4 in the conference standing.

Rick Anton pitched a gem in the first game allowing no runs and six hits while striking out seven. Pulama Silva pitched the final 1/3 inning to record his fourth save of the year. In the first inning, Bobby Rinard hit a triple and Cam Schiller fetched him home for the only offense of the game.

In the nightcap, Merrill Kelly went the distance to get the win. He struck out 10 Vaquero batters. Schiller and Ty Forney collected three hits a piece. Dominic Piazza was 2 for 5 and Rinard was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.

The next game for YC will be against Illinois Central College on Sunday, March 15th. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
