Softball Topples #1 Bears

The Roughrider softball team continued their impressive run through the ACCAC with a doubleheader sweep of 5-time defending NJCAA Division II champion and #1 ranked Phoenix College Bears Thursday afternoon, 7-5 and 11-3. Yavapai is now 27-1 overall and ranked #5 in the country. The games were non-conference events keeping their ACCAC record at 10-0.

In the first game, Brittany Tucker (1/2), Jenna Rodriguez (2/3), Chelsea Pineda (1/3) and Ashley Snedeker (3/4) all hit home runs to provide the offense. Rodriguez picked up her 12th victory on the year allowing only 4 earned runs and striking out eight PC batters.

In the nightcap, Audrey Workman (13-0) held the Bear offense in check with seven strikeouts in five innings pitched. Kacie Smith was 2 for 2 from the dish with a home run and four RBI’s. Caitlin Stangl and Snedeker each collected two hits. Sam Roskopf was 1 for 2 with her first home run of the year.

Yavapai resumes conference play on Saturday, February 7th playing host to Paradise Valley Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
