Eleven Straight For Baseball
The Roughrider baseball team swept a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park against South Mountain Community College, 10-9 and 15-7. That marks the 11th consecutive victory for YC and the fifth straight twinbill sweep. Yavapai’s record is now 20-4 overall and 10-2 in ACCAC play.
The Riders looked in control of the first game taking a 6-0 margin into the fourth inning only to relinquish that lead and get it back and eventually hold off the Cougars for the 1-run victory. Kirby Yates began the game on the hill and Pulama Silva pitched the final 2 2/3 innings to get the win.
Ty Forney had a perfect game from the plate going 4 for 4 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBI’s. Bobby Rinard collected three hits and scored three runs and Brett Sowers hit a solo home run in the third inning.
In the nightcap, Russell Havens pitched six innings to get his fourth victory on the season. Rinard kept his hot bat going in knocking three hits including two doubles and two runs batted in. Dominic Piazza hit his third home run of the year and hit in four runs and Forney added two hits with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI’s.
The Roughriders take their game on the road Saturday, March 7th at #4 ranked Central Arizona College. Rick Anton and Merrill Kelly will get the starting nods on the mound.
