Roughrider Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader
The nationally ranked Roughrider baseball team swept an afternoon doubleheader Wednesday against Thompson Rivers College, Canada, 9-2 and 2-0. YC improves to 12-4 overall and remain at 2-2 in conference play.
Riley Welch picked up the win in the first game going five innings surrendering only three hits and two earned runs while striking out five. Bobby Rinard was perfect from the plate going four for four with a triple, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Cam Schiller and Zac Castleberry each collected two hits and two RBI’s.
In the nightcap, Harley Thompson got his first victory of the year with a stellar performance on the hill. He pitched five innings and allowed only two hits. Pulama Silva pitched the final inning and a third to record his second save of the year. Ty Forney was two for three with a run scored and Cam Brown was one for four with an RBI.
Yavapai will travel to Gateway Community College on Saturday, February 21st for an afternoon doubleheader. Last season, YC won both meetings 13-2 and 8-7. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
