Baseball Splits On The Road

The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader in Tucson Tuesday afternoon against Pima Community College. YC is now 10-4 overall and 2-2 in ACCAC action.

Yavapai got blanked in the first game, 8-0 behind a no-hit performance from Pima pitcher Mike Lachapelle. Roughrider pitcher Kirby Yates (1-1) took the loss surrendering seven earned runs and eight hits while striking out five in 4 2/3 innings.

YC bounced back in the nightcap to beat the Aztecs 6-3. Russell Havens got the victory going 6 2/3 innings, striking out eight and allowing seven hits and zero walks. Ian Campbell threw the final 2 1/3 innings to record his second save of the young season.

Dominic Piazza was perfect from the plate going 3 for 3. Cam Schiller, Brett Sowers and Yates were all 2 for 4.

On Wednesday, February 18th Yavapai will play host to Thompson Rivers University, Canada. Riley Welch and Harley Thompson will be the starting pitchers. The doubleheader will be played in Chino Valley due to poor field conditions at Roughrider Park as a result of the recent weather. The games will begin at 12:00 PM.
