Softball Grounds The Thunderbirds
The #5 ranked Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader at Mesa Community College this afternoon to improve their overall record to 11-1.
In the first game, YC squandered a five-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning only to score the two game winners in the top of the eighth to win 7-5. Jenna Rodriguez got the win (5-1) and Kacie Smith provided the offensive punch with two home runs and four runs batted in. Caitlin Stangl was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
In the nightcap, Audrey Workman did not allow an earned run in a 7-3 victory. Workman stays perfect on the season with a 5-0 record. Stangl was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Brittany Tucker was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Rodriguez was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI’s and Ashley Snedeker was 1 for 3 with a run scored.
Yavapai stays on the road Tuesday, February 17th at Chandler/Gilbert Community College. The first pitch will be at 2:00 PM. The Roughriders will make their 2009 home debut on Thursday, February 19th against Scottsdale Community College and face Glendale Community College on Saturday, February 21st at Roughrider Park. Both doubleheaders will begin at 12:00 PM.
