Honors Roll In For National Champions

Yavapai Player Selected JUCO National Player of the Year.

Justin Meram and Francis Khamis

Sophomore forwards Justin Meram and Francis Khamis were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Adidas JUCO All-America First Team.

The two attackers rewrote the record book while leading their team to back to back National Championships (the school’s 6th & 7th titles), including a national record 26 win unbeaten season in 2008. Meram, who scored 30 goals this season, leaves the program with a school record 132 points while Khamis, also a 30 goal scorer in 2008, established a school record with 53 all-time goals scored. Both players were also named to the NJCAA All America First Team.

Sam Hayden

In addition, sophomore goalkeeper Sam Hayden was named to the NJCAA All America Second Team. They become the 43rd, 44th, and 45th All-Americans in the 20 year history of the Roughrider soccer program. Also, Justin Meram was named to the NSCAA/Adidas Junior College National Player of the Year, becoming the fourth Yavapai player to receive the honor.

The All-America and Player of the Year Awards Banquet will take place in St. Louis, Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America annual convention.
