YC Soccer Advances To Title Match

With two second-half goals in a span of five minutes, the #1 ranked Roughrider soccer team advanced tonight to the NJCAA Region I Championship match by beating Chandler/Gilbert Community College 2-0 at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. For the title, they will be playing #8 ranked Pima Community College winners today versus South Mountain Community College, 6-2. YC is now 21-0-0 and recorded their 86th all-time victory in play-off competition with the win.

The Roughrider defense was stellar again this evening recording their 13th team shutout on the season. Goalkeeper Sam Hayden went the distance in goal to help in the victory. ACCAC Player of the Year Justin Meram got his 26th goal of the season and Chilo Rivera added the late goal to secure the victory.

Saturday night’s match will kick–off at 6:00 PM at Ken Lindley Field in Prescott. Yavapai swept the Aztecs in both regular season games by scores of 3-0 in Tucson and 3-1 in Prescott. The winner not only claims the Region I championship but will also advance to the West District Finals to be played on November 8th.
