Spikers Blanked In Utah

Facing stiff competition, the Lady Rider volleyball team went winless in the highly competitive Salt Lake City Community College Invitational over the weekend. Currently, their record is 4-8 overall and more importantly, 0-0 in ACCAC action.

In their first match Friday, YC fell to #3 ranked College of Southern Idaho 2-0 (21-25, 21-25). Following CSI, Yavapai faced #8 ranked Missouri State University – West Plains and fell to the Lady Grizzlies 2-0 (12-25, 18-25). Next up for the lady spikers was Northeastern Junior College, CO. The Plainswomen beat the home squad, 2-0 (26-28, 21-25). In their final match on Friday, the Lady Riders squared off with Snow College, UT. YC fell to the Badgers 1-2 (28-26, 23-25, 11-15).

Faced four top 20 teams

On Saturday, Illinois Central College, the #3 ranked team in the NJCAA Division II, was the Roughriders first opponent. The home team fought valiantly but fell to the Cougars 1-2 (25-14, 15-25, 14-16). In the final game of the tournament for YC, #17 ranked Lake Land College, IL beat the Lady Riders 3-1 (26-28, 25-15, 21-25, 21-25).

The first ACCAC match of the year for Yavapai will be Wednesday, September 3rd at South Mountain Community College. The match will begin at 7:00 PM. The first home match for the Lady Riders will be Friday, September 5th as they host Glendale Community College beginning at 7:00 PM in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
