Wednesday morning, Head Baseball Coach Sky Smeltzer announced the hiring of Brandon Bailey and Ryan Cougill to the baseball coaching staff replacing the departing Trevor Mote (Baylor University) and Mike Crawford (University of Utah).
Brandon Bailey
Bailey most recently was the assistant coach at fellow conference nemesis Cochise College under head coach and former YC assistant coach Todd Inglehart. In addition to Cochise, Bailey served as an assistant coach at the University of Utah under head coach Bill Kinneberg. “Brandon has worked with two very close friends of mine at the University of Utah and Cochise College,” says Smeltzer. “(Bailey) has received much praise for his energy and enthusiasm for the game of baseball, and his ability to develop a pitching staff. We are excited to welcome him to the Roughrider program.” Bailey will work with the YC pitchers.
Ryan Cougill
Cougill spent last season on the New Mexico Junior College coaching staff. Prior to NMJC, Cougill spent one year as an Assistant at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL and following Western Illinois, Cougill spent two seasons at Joliet Junior College. Of the new assistant, Smeltzer commented, “Ryan comes to YC from New Mexico Junior College, a top 5 nationally recognized program that is a perennial visitor to Grand Junction (NJCAA World Series site). His winning attitude and work ethic are infectious. We are excited to welcome him to the Roughrider program.” Cougill will assist with the hitting and work with the infielders.
