Anton Picked For All-Star Team

Current Roughrider pitcher Rick Anton has been chosen to an NJCAA Baseball All-Star team that will compete against the Taiwanese Junior National Team in a three-game series this summer.

The international event will take place at USA Stadium in Millington, Tennessee on June 20-22, 2008. Millington is the former home of USA Baseball.

Anton, a Prescott native, was nominated by head coach Sky Smeltzer and chosen by the All-Star Team coaching staff. Seward County Community College’s Galen McSpadden will head the staff that includes former Yavapai assistant coach and current Iowa Western Community College head coach Marc Rardin.

Anton had a stellar freshman year winning a league leading 13 games and striking out 84 batters which also was tops in the conference. Additionally, the 6’0″ lefthander was second in the ACCAC with a 1.38 earned run average. For his efforts, Anton was named to the 1st Team All-ACCAC and 1st Team All-NJCAA Region I Division I Team.
