Smeltzer Named ACCAC Coach of the Year

Five Roughriders named all-conference

Head Coach Sky Smeltzer heads a host of Roughrider baseball personnel in the end of the year awards announced Sunday in Phoenix. YC had five players named to the All-ACCAC teams and four were voted to the NJCAA Division I All-Region I teams.

Smeltzer was named the conference Coach of the Year in leading the Roughriders to their third ACCAC title in the past four years. This is his fifth COY award in his YC career.

Moreover, sophomore Kole Calhoun, freshman Rick Anton, sophomore Louie Templeton and freshman Zac Castleberry were voted to the 1st team All-ACCAC. Freshman Dominic Piazza was named to the 2nd team All-ACCAC. Calhoun and Anton made the 1st team NJCAA All-Region I team and Templeton and Castleberry were 2nd team NJCAA All-Region I. Calhoun and Anton are also nominated for the national All-American teams while Templeton, Calhoun and Dan Duffy are nominated for the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Yavapai plays host to Cochise College in the first round of the regional tournament beginning Thursday, May 2nd at Roughrider Park. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:00 PM.
