Duarte Signs With University Of New Mexico
Sophomore softball player Shaunte Duarte has signed a national letter of intent to play at the University of New Mexico for her remaining two years of eligibility.
Before coming to Yavapai College, the Whittier, California native played at James Madison University in Virginia. “I am sure Shaunte will step in at UNM and do an outstanding job for them” says YC Head Coach Stacy Iveson. “She has played softball at a very competitive level for several years. The coaches at UNM were impressed by her power (16 homeruns) and her desire to help take her team to the next level.”
Duarte led the Roughriders in home runs this year while batting .373. Additionally, she had 10 doubles, 1 triple and 50 runs batted in. Her 16 home runs ranked her third in the ACCAC and seventh nationally. The Psychology major will lead her YC team as they host the NJCAA Region I Division I Tournament this Friday and Saturday with the possibility of a trip to the National Tournament in Plant City, Florida.
