Softball Splits With The Aztecs
Remain alone in the ACCAC DI race
The #19 ranked Roughrider softball team remains in second place, one game up on #10 ranked Central Arizona College and Pima Community College after a split with Pima (36-14-1, 20-10) this afternoon at Roughrider Park. YC lost the first game 3-2 and shutout the Aztecs in the nightcap, 8-0. Yavapai is now 21-9 in the ACCAC standings and are 40-15 overall.
Jenna Rodriguez (24-7) was the heartbreak loser in the first game after only allowing five hits and no walks. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a 2-run home run. YC bounced back in the second game with an 8-0 drubbing in 6 innings. Caitlin Stangl hit her first career home run to lead off the game. She was 3 for 3 and scored 3 runs. Rodriguez also hit a home run. Britinie Hardine pitched all six innings for the shut out and her 14th victory on the year.
The regular season finale will be Tuesday, April 22nd. Yavapai will travel to #3 ranked and first place in the ACCAC Division I race, Eastern Arizona College. The twinbill will have increased implications as YC finds themselves in a tough battle for play-off maneuvering with CAC, PCC and EAC. In their first meeting of the year, both teams split a doubleheader at Roughrider Park with the Roughriders losing the first game, 11-7 and winning the second 5-0. The games will begin at 12:00 PM in Thatcher.
