Roughrider’s Sign First 6 Players For 2008-2009 Season

Includes transfer from University of Nebraska-Kearny

“We are proud to announce the addition of these 6 student-athletes to the Men’s Basketball Program at Yavapai College,” says Head Coach Howard Brown. “All of them have come from outstanding programs that stress hard work on the basketball court and in the classroom. They are all very well accomplished basketball players but are also towards the top of their respective classes with their grades. We look forward to getting them on campus to begin working on getting Yavapai back to the upper echelon of the ACCAC.”

Adam Arciniega – 6’7” – Guard/Forward – Desert Edge HS, AZ

  • 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
  • 4A 2nd Team All-State
  • Region Player of the Year
  • 1st Team All-Region
  • 4A DII State Champion

“Long and athletic…Good shooter but even better at getting to the basket…Very good defender who gets in the lanes for steals and a deceptive shot blocker. Adam has the potential to come in and be a game changer. He can attack the basket at will and also step out and shoot the 3. He is very active on both ends of the floor.”

Daniel Duran – 6’7” – Forward – Coconino, HS, AZ

  • 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks

“Long and athletic…Good in the post but even better playing the high post…Deceptively good shooter who has range out to the 3…Good shot blocker. Daniel will bring very good athleticism to our 4-5 position. He runs the floor very well and shoots the ball better than most know.”

Andrew Fulbright – 6’3” – Guard – Desert Edge HS, AZ

Gilbert Morales – 6’5” – Guard/Forward – Desert Edge HS, AZ

  • 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
  • 2nd Team All-Region
  • 4A DII State Champion

“Do-It-All player…Good shooter with good range…good penetrating to the basket…very active defender…Scrappy player. Gilbert is from the same mold as crowd favorite Brandon Gentry. He always seems to be in the right place and in the middle of everything. He knows how to score in many ways and defensively is everywhere on the floor.”

Niko Sachs – 6’3” – Guard – Cactus HS, AZ

  • 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals

  • 2nd Team All-Region
  • ESPN Top 150 Guards in the Nation
  • ESPN Top 5 defenders on the West Coast

“Long and very athletic…Lock down defender…good shooter and very good at attacking the basket. Niko is a very good defender. He is always asked to take on the opposing teams best player and always succeeds. He has a knack for getting to the basket and scoring. Niko brings a toughness to the floor that we look forward to coaching and seeing as the year goes on.”

Justin McCullough – 6’8 – Forward/Center – Sunrise Mtn. HS, AZ
