YC remains in first place

The #13 ranked Roughrider baseball team suffered their only conference doubleheader sweep of the season on Saturday at the hands of Pima Community College, 1-2 and 7-13. Despite the losses, YC remains in first place of the NJCAA Region I Division I race with a 23-7 mark and 33-14-1 overall. Cochise College and South Mountain Community College are two games behind with identical 21-9 records.

Despite pitching a gem, Kirby Yates was the hard luck pitcher allowing the winning run in the seventh inning. Unfortunately, Yavapai mustered only one run of support for the Hawaiian native. Deven Braden hit his third home run of the season for the lone score. YC never quite bounced back in the nightcap as Roughrider pitching gave up 13 runs.

Yavapai returns to the home diamond on Tuesday, April 15th hosting Central Arizona College in an afternoon doubleheader. In their previous meeting, both teams split a doubleheader in Coolidge with YC winning the first game, 6-4 and dropping the second 7-6. The league’s winningest pitcher, Rick Anton takes the hill for the Roughriders in the first game and Taylor Lewis gets the nod in the nightcap. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park.
