Softball Wins And Loses In Extra Innings

The #10 Roughrider softball team went into extra innings in both ends of a doubleheader against Arizona Western College this afternoon in Yuma and came home with a split winning the first game 8-6 and dropping the second 8-7.

YC is now 38-11 overall and 20-6 in ACCAC play.

In the opener, Jenna Rodriguez got her 22nd win of the year pitching seven innings and scattering eight hits. The reigning conference player of the week Shaunte Duarte led the Roughriders from the plate going 3 for 4 with a home run (15), one run scored and one run batted in. Jen Maule was also 3 for 4 with two runs scored. Kacie Smith and Brittany Tucker were each 2 for 4 and Aly Rhodes was 2 for 5 with one run scored and two RBI’s.

In the nightcap, AWC hit a walk-off home run off of reliever Rodriguezin the bottom half of the eighth inning, to get the victory. Britinie Hardine got the start for YC giving up five earned runs in six innings, Rodriguez (22-7) was the losing pitcher of record.

YC travels to Coolidge to play #15 Central Arizona College on Tuesday, April 8th. In March, Yavapai swept the Vaqueras in Prescott, 8-0 and 9-0. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:00 PM on the campus of CAC.
