Softball Stays Atop ACCAC DI Standings
Rodriguez homers twice and Chiquete and Duarte go deep
The Roughrider softball team continues to impress with a split this afternoon of the number one team in the nation, Eastern Arizona College at Roughrider Park. EAC won the first game 11-7 and Yavapai shutout the Gila Monsters in the second game 5-0. YC remains in first place in the ACCAC Division I race with a 19-5 mark and Eastern AZ moves to 17-5.
Jenna Rodriguez dropped only her sixth game of the year (21-6) giving up 10 hits and 6 earned runs. Aly Rhodes, Aubrianna Chiquete, Shaunte Duarte and Rodriguez all were 2 for 4. Chiquete and Rodriguez homered for the Roughriders.
Britinie Hardine got her first win since February 27th as she scattered seven hits in five innings of relief. Jessie Pretzer got the start allowing only three hits and shutting out the second best hitting team in the NJCAA Division I.
Offensively, Yavapai was led by Duarte and Rodriguez. Each homered and scored a run. Kacie Smith and Briana Swift were 2/3 and Aly Rhodes was 1/3.
Yavapai returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 5th traveling to Arizona Western College in a doubleheader. The twinbill was originally scheduled for April 12th. YC swept an earlier doubleheader with the Matadors, 11-3 and 4-3 on March 18th at Roughrider Park. The games will begin at 12:00 PM on the campus of AWC in Yuma.
