Baseball Splits With Coyotes

YC plays entertains #14 Cochise College on Tuesday

Yavapai baseball kept a two game advantage over second place Cochise College today with a doubleheader split against Chandler/Gilbert Community College, 8-0 and 12-13 in 10 innings. YC is now 29-10-1 overall and 19-3 in the ACCAC standings while CGCC drops to 19-15 and 13-9.

Kirby Yates (5-2) pitched a complete game shutout in the first game allowing only four hits and two walks and striking out eight Coyote batters. Louie Templeton provided the fireworks from the plate going 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and one RBI. Braden Degamo was 1 for 1 knocking in three Roughrider runs.

YC went into extra innings in the nightcap only to fall in the final frame. Rick Anton (7-3) took the loss pitching 2 innings, walking one, striking out two and scattering two hits. Three Roughrider batters hit the long ball: Kole Calhoun (2-5, 1 RBI, 1 run), Dan Duffy (3/5, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Dominic Piazza (3/4, 3 RBI, 2 runs). Bobby Rinard was 2 for 5 with two triples and two runs batted in.

Yavapai plays host to #14 Cochise College (30-8, 17-5) on Tuesday, April 1st in a battle between number one and number two in the conference. This afternoon, the Apaches split a twinbill with South Mountain CC, 0-3 and 3-2. Anton and Taylor Lewis (4-1) get the starts for the Roughriders. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
