Yavapai holds the #13 spot in the NJCAA rankings

The Roughrider baseball team pounded out 21 hits and scored 17 runs in a blowout of cross-town opponent Embry Riddle Aeronautical University this afternoon at Roughrider Park. The contest was scheduled at the last minute to take the place of the missed game against Western Nebraska Community College due to inclement weather. The victory improves the Roughriders overall record to 28-9-1. Additionally, in the latest national rankings, YC dropped a few spots to #13.

Freshman Kirk Dehler (2-0) pitched a two-hitter this afternoon recording 8 strikeouts to get the win. Randen Abafo led the YC hitters going 4 for 6 with three runs and two runs batted in. Jake Chilton had a productive day going 3 for 6 with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Bobby Rinnard, Brad Johnson and Torrance Burns were each 2 for 5 with Burns hitting the long ball, his first home run of the season.

Yavapai returns to conference action on Saturday, March 29th against Chandler/Gilbert Community College (18-14, 12-8) in Chandler. Kirby Yates and Merrill Kelly take the mound for the Roughriders. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
