YC Drops First League Game

Yavapai College baseball split an afternoon doubleheader yesterday against Pima Community College, dropping the first game 5-0 and run ruling the Aztecs in the nightcap, 16-6. YC is now 22-7-1 overall and 15-1 in ACCAC action.

In the first game, PCC pitchers blanked the Roughriders on two hits. Freshman pitcher Rick Anton (6-2) dropped only his second game of the year and Dominic Piazza had both hits for the home team.

Scoring wasn’t a problem after the first game shutout as Yavapai pushed 16 runs across the plate in the final game. Louie Templeton led the charge going 3 for 4 with one double and two triples, scoring three runs and knocking in two. Kole Calhoun was 3 for 3 with a home run and five RBI’s. Braden Degamo was 3 for 4 with four runs batted in and Brad Johnson had 2 hits in 3 at bats.

Today, Wednesday, March 19th Yavapai plays host to Western Nebraska Community College and entertains Seminole State Junior College, OK tomorrow, Thursday, March 20th. YC returns to conference play on Saturday, March 22nd at Central Arizona College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
