Softball Keeps Pace With League Leaders

Roughrider softball improved their conference record to 15-3 with a doubleheader sweep of Arizona Western College (20-10-1, 12-6) yesterday at Roughrider Park. The final scores were 11-3 and 4-3. Overall, YC is now 30-8.

Jenna Rodriguez picked up her league leading 17th victory of the season tossing a 5-hitter with four strike outs. Caitlin Stangl picked up her 74th, 75th and 76th hit of the season which leads the ACCAC. Brittany Tucker and Rodriguez each were 2 for 4. Kacie Smith and Shaunte Duarte were 2 for 3 and Brianna Swift was 1 for 1 with a home run and five runs batted in.

Britinie Hardine got the start on the mound for the Roughriders in the nightcap, but was relieved in the 2nd inning by Rodriguez after giving up three runs. Rodriguez recorded the win scattering five hits and striking out six without giving up a run. The freshman from Arcadia, California is now 18-4 on the season.

Aly Rhodes was 2 for 3 from the plate for YC and Duarte hit her 9th home run of the year. Rodriguez aided her cause going 2 for 3.

Yavapai plays a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, March 20th against Odessa College, TX. The twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM and will be played at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
