Baseball Outscores Opponent 13-1
The Roughrider baseball team outscored the visiting Illinois Central College Cougars, 13-1 yesterday in a doubleheader at Roughrider Park.
Yavapai’s winning streak extends to sixteen as their overall record improves to 21-4-1 and the conference record remains at 14-0.
Three Roughrider pitchers combined for the shutout in the first game as Russell Havens (3-1) picked up the win, pitching five innings allowing five hits, striking out six and walking one. Austin Sloan and Kole Calhoun each pitched one inning giving up two hits between them. Calhoun led the offensive charge blasting a two-run home run, his fifth on the year. Dan Duffy, Dominic Piazza and Louie Templeton all went 2 for 3 on the game.
The strong pitching continued in the nightcap as Kirk Dehler (1-0) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. The first batter of that inning lined a single to break up the no-no. His line was five plus innings, one hit and four strikeouts. Austin Sloan and Justin Harper shut the Cougars down in the final frames. Templeton continued his hot hitting going 2 for 3 and Brad Johnson was 2 for 3 with two runs batted in.
YC continues their break from conference action with a home twinbill against Iowa Western Community College on Friday at Roughrider Park. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
