Softball Sweeps Paradise Valley

Rodriguez garners two wins

The Roughrider softball team snapped a 2-game losing streak with a doubleheader victory over Paradise Valley Community College on Saturday, 5-0 and 4-3. Yavapai is now 24-8 overall and 11-3 in conference action.

In the opener, Jenna Rodriguez got her 12th win of the year allowing only two hits while striking out 14 PV hitters. Moreover, the freshman right-hander was 2 for 3 from the plate with a home run and a double. Brittany Tucker also left the yard for her 5th dinger of the year. The leading hitter in the league, Caitlin Stangl was 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Aly Rhodes got the start in the nightcap going 3 1/3 innings allowing only 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Rodriguez (13-3) came on in relief to pitch the final 3 2/3 innings to record her second win on the day. Kacie Smith and Tucker were each 2 for 4 and Jennifer Maule was 2 for 2. Rhodes was 4 for 8 on the day and Shaunte Duarte finished the day 2 for 7 with a home run, a double, one run scored and one run batted in.

Yavapai returns to ACCAC play on Tuesday, March 11th at Gateway Community College in Phoenix. The twinbill will start at 2:00 PM.
