Softball Goes 2-2 Over Weekend

YC scores 56 runs in four games

Posting twenty-three runs on the number one team in the nation could make one believe that an upset was to be had. However giving up twenty-eight runs at the same time makes it awful hard to pull the unexpected result. The Roughrider softball team made a gallant effort at the impossible but came up short against fellow conference foe, Phoenix College, 7-4 and 21-19 (11 innings). With the doubleheader loss, YC drops to 20-6 and 9-3 in ACCAC action.

Yavapai had its opportunities to win both ends of the twinbill, but the #1 ranked Bears had an answer to every move the Roughriders made. To date, the 19 runs scored by the home team are the most points put on the board this season. What started out as a softball game ended with a football game score.

Less than twenty-four hours later, YC took to the diamond again hosting non-conference opponent, Oakland Community College, Michigan. The offensive output continued as Head Coach Stacy Iveson’s squad swept the Lady Raiders, 10-0 and 23-5 (surpassing the 19 runs against Phoenix College). The record now stands at 22-6 and remains at 9-3 in the conference rankings.

In the first game, Jenna Rodriguez and Jessie Pretzer combined for the victory as Kacie Smith, Aubrianna Chiquete and Jennifer Maule collected two hits a piece. In the nightcap, Britinie Hardine and Aly Rhodes benefited from the offensive outburst while the two pitchers allowed only five OCC runners to cross the plate. Jesse Vohs, Chiquete and Smith hit the long ball aiding the twenty-three run onslaught.

YC returns to conference games on Thursday, March 6th at Mesa Community College. Earlier in the season, the Roughriders blanked the Thunderbirds in a twinbill in Prescott, 8-0 and 8-0. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:00 PM on the campus of MCC in Mesa.
