Offense cranks four home runs on the day

The Roughrider softball team continues to dominate their opponents with powerful bats and solid pitching. At Roughrider Park yesterday, YC did just that, pounding the Cougars from South Mountain Community College, 13-1 and 11-1. Yavapai is now 20-4 overall and 9-1 in the ACCAC.

Jenna Rodriguez (10-2) picked up her tenth win on the season allowing no hits and striking out three. The Roughrider offense hit three home runs, Kacie Smith, Aubrianna Chiquete and Micaela Miller left the yard and Caitlin Stangl was 2 for 3 with three runs scored and one run batted in.

The offense continued in the nightcap with Chiquete knocking her second home run of the day to go with a double and four runs batted in. Stangl, Smith and Aly Rhodes each collected two hits. Britinie Hardine (9-2) was solid from the mound to record the victory. She scattered two hits and struck out one.

Yavapai plays host to the defending NJCAA National Champions on Saturday, March 1st, Phoenix College (19-3, 10-0). In their previous meeting this year, the Bears swept a doubleheader in Phoenix, 3-2 and 5-6. Saturday’s twinbill will begin at 12:00 PM at Roughrider Park.
