Roughriders Playoff Hopes Dims

The Roughrider men’s basketball team’s hopes of a playoff spot took a hit last night as the Vaqueros from Central Arizona College won 106-104 in the Storm Center.

Both teams were tied in the standings, one game behind Cochise College. Cochise was victorious in their game, which puts YC two games out of contention with three games remaining. Yavapai drops to 12-15 overall and 8-11 in conference play.

The Roughriders had five players in double figures led by Brock Entner with 24 points and nine assists. Louis Barraza scored 21 points; Keith Wilson had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Javon Jones and Brandon Gentry chipped in 15 and 14 points respectively. As a team, YC shot 50% from the field and 48% from the three point line. Unfortunately, CAC hit 60% of their shots and 52% from behind the arc.

Yavapai entertains Chandler/Gilbert Community College on Saturday in a rare afternoon game. YC was victorious in their first meeting of the year, 73-69. The game will begin at 4:00 PM in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
