Lady Riders Fall To The Vaqueras

When facing the number one team in the nation, mistakes need to be kept to a minimum.

Unfortunately for the Lady Rider basketball team, too many turnovers resulted into thirty-three extra points for Central Arizona College in a 97-75 rout tonight in the Storm Center. With the loss, Yavapai is now 18-9 overall and 15-4 in ACCAC play with three more game left in the regular season.

Despite having a badly sprained shooting thumb, Tehani Goldsmith led the squad with 24 points. Jonisha Goldsmith added 17 points with four assists and Ebony Ward added 11 points. As a team, YC shot a respectable 47% from the field however, CAC connected on 59% of their shots.

With three games remaining, YC finds themselves two games up on third place Arizona Western College. Head Coach Brad Clifford’s team needs to win one of the remaining three to lay claim to a first round home playoff spot. Yavapai holds the tiebreaker with AWC as a result of sweeping the season series.

Chandler/Gilbert Community College, the #11 ranked team in NJCAA Division II, comes to town on Saturday, February 23. In their first meeting of the year, Yavapai beat the Coyotes, 65-50. Tip-off will be at 2:00 PM in the Storm Center.
