YC Softball Pounds The Coyotes
The Roughrider softball team improved their conference record to 6-0 after a twinbill drubbing of Chandler/Gilbert Community College today at Roughrider Park in Prescott.
The final scores were 8-2 and 11-1. YC has now beaten the Coyotes in all five games that these teams have met this year outscoring them, 44-6. Head coach Stacy Iveson’s squad is now 17-3 overall.
In the first game, Brittany Tucker provided the fireworks in the third inning blasting a 3-run home run off the back fence of Roughrider Park. The freshman catcher finished the game 3 for 4 with the home run, four runs batted in and two runs scored. Caitlin Stangl was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases and Kacie Smith was 1 for 2 with three runs scored. Jenna Rodriguez (8-1) went seven innings allowing only one earned run with seven strikeouts and scattering six hits.
Offense was not a problem on the day as the Roughriders tallied 11 runs in the nightcap. Stangl was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two more stolen bases to increase her total to 24 in as many tries. Smith was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBI’s. Aubrianna Chiquete and Shaunte Duarte each homered fetching home seven runs between them. Britinie Hardine (8-2) picked up her eighth victory on the year striking out three and allowing one walk and three hits.
Yavapai continues league play on Saturday at Glendale Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM on the campus of GCC in Glendale.
