Softball Opens Conference Play With A Sweep
Rodriguez wins seventh game. In past three games, Stangl is nine for thirteen from the plate.
The Roughrider softball team opened up conference play this afternoon, their first conference game in 27 years, sweeping a doubleheader from Scottsdale Community College, 11-0 and 12-1. Yavapai has a 13-3 overall mark and are 2-0 in ACCAC action.
Jenna Rodriguez (7-1) won her seventh game on the season scattering 3 hits and striking out eight in five innings of work. Caitlin Stangl enjoyed a productive day at the plate going three for four with 4 runs scored, 2 runs batted in and 2 stolen bases. Kacie Smith was one for three with a run scored and 2 RBI’s and Brittany Tucker was perfect from the plate going one for one with a runs scored and a run batted in.
In the nightcap, Britinie Hardine (6-2) threw 6 strong innings giving up one earned run with 2 strikeouts and allowing only four hits. Stangl stayed hot from the dish going 3 for 5 with a run scored. Tucker had 2 hits with a run scored and an RBI. Aubriana Chiquete was 2 for 3 with three runs batted in and Rodriquez was one for four with a grand slam.
YC opens up their home conference season on Saturday, February 16th at Roughrider Park playing host to Mesa Community College. This will be the squad’s first appearance at home since the opening day on January 25th. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM.
