Roughrider Baseball Splits

The Yavapai College baseball team settled for a split in this afternoon’s doubleheader against College of Southern Idaho at Roughrider Park in Prescott.

YC dropped the opener 3-1 and got a shutout in the nightcap, 9-0. Yavapai had beaten the Golden Eagles earlier in the year, 4-2 in Las Vegas. The Roughriders are now 5-3-1 on the season.

Kirby Yates (0-1) was the hard luck pitcher of record in the first game striking out 11 CSI batters in 6 innings on the mound. The Roughrider hitting was silent on the game except for Dan Duffy who had a double and the lone RBI. In the second game, Prescott native Rick Anton did not allow an opponent to cross the plate while striking out 6 in six innings of action. Anton is now 2-1 on the season.

Yavapai sends Merrill Kelly to the bump tomorrow as these same teams play a nine inning single game to conclude the three-game series. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 PM at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
