Ward hits final 4 points to secure the win

The Lady Rider basketball team garnered their third straight victory tonight over Scottsdale Community College, 68-67. YC pushes their record to 14-9 overall and 12-3 in the conference standings.

Yavapai led 42-30 at halftime and even took a 15 point lead early in the second half. The Lady Artichokes took a 3-point lead with less than a minute to play in regulation. After two free throws by Ebony Ward with 36 seconds to play YC trailed by one and head coach Brad Clifford took a timeout to instruct his team. With 10 seconds remaining Ward stripped the ball from the opponent and went coast to coast to score the winning bucket with 5 seconds left on the clock. SCC didn’t get a shot off in the waning moments.

Ward and Tehani Goldsmith led the home team with 16 points and Sandy Cook added 10 points. Taameka Pruitt had a stellar night with 6 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Kellie Snyder contributed 6 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

Next up for the Lady Riders is Mesa Community College on Saturday, February 9th. In their prior meeting, the Thunderbirds upset YC, 83-76. The game will begin at 2:00 PM and will be played on the campus MCC in Mesa.
