Roughriders Sweep The Bruins

Due to poor field conditions caused by this past weekend’s snowstorm, the Roughrider baseball team traveled to Casa Grande for their “home” opener against Salt Lake City Community College this afternoon.

YC came away with a sweep of the Bruins, 8-1 and 5-3 improving their overall record to 3-2-1.

Russell Havens (2-0) picked up his second win of the year allowing only 1 SLCCC runner to cross the plate. Yavapai bats collected 10 hits. Freshmen Zac Castleberry had two runs batted in and Bobby Rinard and Jared Norris each collected two hits.

Taylor Lewis (1-1) was the pitcher of record in the second game of the twinbill with Kole Calhoun shutting the lid for the save. Despite getting only 3 hits, the Roughriders pushed five runs across to get the victory and Calhoun had two RBI’s.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 6th YC will host their true “home opener” entertaining the same SLCCC team in a nine inning single game. The first pitch will be thrown at 1:00 PM.
