Softball Drops First Game

Iveson’s squad finishes 5-1 in the tournament

YC softball went 1-1 on the final day of the Great Western Shootout in Yuma today to finish the tournament 5-1. Yavapai beat Snow College, UT in the morning game, 3-2 and lost to Community College of Southern Nevada in the afternoon, 2-1. The Roughriders are now 9-1 on the year.

Jenna Rodriguez (5-0) picked up her 5th victory of the season scattering 5 hits, striking out 7 and walking only 2. Caitlin Stangl added the offensive punch going 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Aly Rhodes was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Kacie Smith was 3 for 3 with an RBI.

The offense went stagnant for pitcher Britinie Hardine (3-1) in the nightcap as she surrendered only 2 earned runs, allowing 7 hits and striking out 8. Rhodes was 2 for 4 at the plate with the only RBI. Smith was also 2 for 4.

Yavapai returns to the diamond on Tuesday, February 5th in a non-conference doubleheader at Chandler/Gilbert Community College. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 2:00 PM.
