Lady Riders Knock Off Matadors

The Lady Rider basketball team won a pivotal ACCAC game tonight over second place Arizona Western College, 81-58 to move into a tie with the Lady Matadors.

Yavapai currently owns the playoff advantage as they swept the season series. The victory improves the lady hoopsters overall record to 13-9 and more significantly, 11-3 in conference action.

YC took a 40-29 halftime lead into the locker room behind 50% shooting and 12/12 from the free throw line. Yavapai extended the lead in the second half to as many as 25 points while shooting 62% from the field in the half and holding AWC to 39% shooting. Tehani Goldsmith led the squad with 24 points including 4 three-pointers. Jonisha Carson continued her hot hand dropping 20 points and Paris Dunford came off the bench to score 17.

Yavapai returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 6th at Scottsdale Community College. In their first meeting of the year, YC beat the Artichokes 88-75 in the Storm Center. Tip-off will be at 5:30 PM on the campus of SCC in Scottsdale.
