YC struggles to score without the services of leading scorer Louis Barraza

The Roughrider men’s basketball team dropped their fourth consecutive game tonight at the hands of #9 ranked South Mountain Community College, 71-54. This marks the 4th straight contest against a top 20 ranked team. YC is now 7-8 overall and 3-4 in ACCAC action.

Playing without leading scorer Louis Barraza due to an injury, Yavapai had to look elsewhere to fill the scoring void. Keith Wilson was valiant in the attempt scoring 16 points, grabbing 8 rebounds and 2 steals. Mychal Martinez added 7 points and 8 rebounds. SMCC outshot the Roughriders 54% to 39% and connected on 76% of their three point shots compared to YC’s 11% from behind the arc.

Yavapai resumes conference action traveling to Coolidge on Saturday to meet the Vaqueros from Central Arizona College. Tip-off will be at 4:00 PM.
