YC loses Barraza for two weeks
The Roughrider men hoopsters finished off the Donnelly’s Challenge in Twin Falls, ID with two losses against #6 ranked Salt Lake City Community College and the host team #2 ranked College of Southern Idaho. YC is now 7-7 overall and remain at 3-3 in ACCAC action.
The Bruins from SLCCC dominated the Riders from the get go winning 87-45. The following evening, playing without their leading scorer, Louis Barraza due to an injury, Head Coach Howard Brown’s team proved to be no match for the nation’s 2nd leading offensive team dropping the final game of the tournament, 113-77.
Brandon Gentry picked up the scoring void left by Barraza by dropping 23 points and adding 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. Javon Jones, back from his hand injury, chipped in 16 points and 3 rebounds. Keith Wilson added 13 points and Mychal Martinez scored 9 points and grabbed 11 caroms. Barraza’s injury is serious enough to keep him out action for two weeks.
YC returns to conference play on Wednesday, January 9th against South Mountain Community College ranked #11 in the NJCAA Division II poll. The game will be played at the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott. Tip-off will be at 7:30 PM.
