Lady Riders Come Up Big In Yuma
Lighting strikes twice for Goldsmith
The Lady Rider basketball team scored a thrilling double overtime victory tonight over Arizona Western College in Yuma, 74-67. Yavapai improves their overall record to 4-4 and more importantly, 3-0 in ACCAC action.
Both teams struggled to find the basket in the first half as the Lady Matadors took a 21-19 lead into halftime. YC trailed by as many as 9 points in the second half, but with 1.8 seconds remaining in regulation, Tehani Goldsmith, the reigning ACCAC player of the week, hit a running three-pointer to force the overtime.
Once again, Yavapai found themselves trailing by three points with 7 seconds remaining in the first overtime. Kellie Snyder grabbed an offensive rebound off of an errant three point attempt and found Goldsmith at the top of the key with 1.2 seconds on the clock and Goldsmith delivered again to send the game into a second extra period. Yavapai seized control of the final frame outscoring the opponent 12-5 to seal their third straight victory and remain unbeaten in conference play.
Goldsmith was the only lady hoopster in double figures scoring a season high 36 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Snyder led the team in rebounding with 12 and chipped in 6 points.
YC entertains the Lady Artichokes from Scottsdale Community College on Saturday, December 8th. The Lady Riders won both meetings with SCC last season 85-66 and 69-58. The game will begin at 5:30 PM in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
