YC Drops Third Straight
Roughriders drop game despite 4 players in double figures
Once again, the three ball dooms the Roughrider basketball team as the Gauchos from Glendale Community College drained 10 three-pointers on the afternoon including the game winner with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation to win the game 66-64 and give YC their 3rd straight loss. Yavapai is now 4-3 overall and 0-2 in ACCAC play.
On paper, the Roughriders beat GCC, shooting 44% from the field and 55% from behind the arc while holding the visitors to 37% shooting from the field and 35% from the three. However, YC was held in check by too many turnovers and too many opposing three pointers.
Louis Barraza led the Roughriders with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Keith Wilson added 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Jon Black had 13 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks and Mychal Martinez chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists.
Yavapai travels to Yuma to tangle with the Matadors from Arizona Western College on Wednesday, December 5th. Last season, the Roughriders split with AWC winning in Prescott 90-89 in overtime and losing in Yuma 83-55. Tip-off on Wednesday will be at 7:30 PM. All action can be heard on 95.9 FM KKLD.
