Three YC Baseball Players Make DI Commitments
Three current Yavapai College baseball players have signed National Letters of Intent to play at NCAA Division I baseball programs for next year.
Sophomore Kole Calhoun (Buckeye, AZ) will return to the valley next year to play for Head Coach Pat Murphy and the Sun Devils at Arizona State University. Calhoun will be used as a left handed pitcher and outfielder. As a freshman at YC, Calhoun hit .296 with 10 doubles, 1 home run, 32 runs batted in and 8 stolen bases. Additionally, the 5’10” sophomore was 1-2 on the mound with 2 saves and 14 strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings.
Sophomore Justin Harper (Phoenix, AZ) will take his talents to sunny southern California and San Diego State University. The Aztecs are coached by MLB Hall of Famer, Tony Gwynn. In 21 1/3 innings last season, the right-hander recorded an 0-2 record with14 strikeouts and 1 save and recorded an impressive 3.80 ERA.
Sophomore Louie Templeton (Peoria, AZ) heads to the Midwest to play for head coach Rob Walton at Oral Roberts University. Templeton redshirted at Yavapai last year after completing a full season at San Diego City College, CA the year prior. As a freshman, the 6’1″ shortstop hit .341 with 30 RBI’s, 9 doubles, 1 triple and 5 stolen bases.
Yavapai begins their spring season on January 31, 2008 against Community College of Southern Nevada.
