Men’s Basketball Opens With A Victory

The Yavapai College men’s basketball team opened up their ’07-’08 campaign with a monsterous victory over Grand Canyon University JV squad in the Storm Center last night, 88-49. The Roughriders took a 49-21 lead into the locker room at halftime and shot 50% from the field and 39% from the 3-point line en route to the win.

Five players scored in double digits led by sophomore Keith Wilson with 19 points. He also added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Freshman Louis Barraza added 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Sophomore Jon Black had 11 points and led the team in rebounds with 7. Freshman Bruce Fuller chipped in 11 points and freshman Mychal Martinez scored 10 points to go with 6 rebounds.

YC plays this evening in the final game of the Bill Fain Tip-Off Classic against semi-pro team Tierra Del Sol, who lost to Glendale Community College last night. Tip-off will be at 7:00 PM in the Storm Center on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
